Making the most out of internal links
Links are weighted by position on page
Google will give different weight to links in different parts of your pages
Headers, sidebars, and footers are treated differently than the main content
Don’t try to abuse the footer section with site-side links or content to internal or external pages
Make the Footer section work for you
Vary or change the content in your footer section, in the front, middle and end
Keep as many different things moving and changing as possible
Change the actual content not just the older
Include new pages, new blog posts, related pages, news, related products, or just random links to different parts of the site
Getting more from internal links
Try to use your primary keyword to link to your homepage not the word ‘home’
Place a house graphic icon next to the keyword for users
If you must use a home no follow the link, then use the masthead logo link, with a css image replacement technique
Use a standard well know css image replacement technique, don’t go off the reservation, don’t use negative margins
Put the words in the masthead logo
Even More Internal Links
Vary the links on ever page, don’t repeat the same link block
XML Sitemaps
Keep them under 5,000
Break sitemaps into smaller sitemaps, in my experience it helps with deep crawling
Using sitemaps gets new pages indexed 1-3 days quicker than normal spidering.
