What Twitter is/What Twitter isn’t

by Josh on June 21, 2010

I’m gonna start this off by saying there are many different ways to use Twitter. Individuals can use it for whatever way they want to. This post is completely satirical and merely reflects the funniest/oddest/dumbest tweets I’ve read lately. At the end of this post if you’ve come across any tweets that you think are completely insane, please share with the class. Enjoy :-)

What Twitter is:
A way to connect with others-

What Twitter isn’t:
A place to gripe about not getting a tip-

What Twitter is:
A place to promote special deals-

What Twitter isn’t:
A place to brag about buying drugs-

What Twitter is:
A place to chat with industry peers-

What Twitter isn’t:
A place to stalk others-

What Twitter is:
A place to get new followers-

What Twitter isn’t:
A place to beg for followers-

What Twitter is:
A place to ask for advise-

What Twitter isn’t:
A place to claim hatred for the Government (and use your real name in your profile)-

What Twitter is:
A place to vent about the BP Oil Spill-

What Twitter isn’t:
A place to say you’ll do something only to do the opposite a few days later-

Twitter isn’t for, IMHO, a place to share every thought. Some people appear to spill whatever they are thinking, swearing, ranting about without filter.

Twitter’s question bar has grown from “What are you doing now?” to “What are you thinking” to “What’s happening?” Thus, Twitter is for sharing news, events, updates, valuable info that adds value to streams.

Nice recap, Joshua!

Goodness Dana. Surprised me to have you come comment on this little blog! Warn-a-brother next time will ya? I couldn’t agree more. The more and more I ‘try’ to branch out to follow other the more I’m amazed at what gets tweeted, from the ridiculous drug purchases to public arguments between married couples online. Dead on as always. Looking forward to hanging out with you at BlueGlass!

Interesting stuff Josh, as someone fairly new to Twitter I tended to watch a lot at first to see what others were doing and was amazed at how dull some of it was.

Relieved to see that none of my early Tweets appear in your list :-) Hopefully getting the hang of the thing now and not falling into some of the obvious traps. (Like parading my drug habit to the world, not that I have one to parade!).

Thanks

Tony

To be honest I wrote this post entirely from reading that tweet lol. While there isn’t a rule on what you can/can’t do that’s got to be pretty stupid. After that I just started searching for random words on twitter to see what came up. Funny stuff. Not all my tweets are exactly ‘perfect’ per-say, but balancing it out with something my followers can say ‘Oh yeah, that’s why I’m following him’. Every now and then tweeps need a little WTH?
